2. LUNCH-HOUR CONCERT (£15)

A small, but wonderful concert to fit neatly into the lunch-hour! Born in Vienna in 1875, Kreisler is one of the greatest violinists to have ever lived, and wrote and arranged extensively for the instrument. His string quartet is not well-known however, and is a masterpiece. He called it his "tribute to Vienna" (his birthplace). This is preceded by some of the first experiments by Schoenberg in moving away from the luxurious romantic harmonies of the end of the 19th Century and exploring a new way of writing. The first five pieces of this set were completed in just one day in 1911.
