Taneyev's opus 16 string quintet is one of his finest chamber works. Taneyev was a pupil of Rubenstein (piano) and Tchaikovsky (composition) at the Moscow Conservatoire in Russia. His extraordinarily underappreciated skills in counterpoint and harmony honed through close study of Bach and Beethoven, combined with a bold and lyrical style of his own makes Taneyev's music both complex and emotionally plain at once.
The C major quintet will be performed at 10pm in the atmospheric and intimate space at Westgate Chapel.
A delicious pre-concert supper, cooked by persian chef Sheba Anvari will be served in the Hibbert Room, next door to Westgate Chapel from 8:45pm. The menu will soon be available to view. Pre-booking for supper is essential. Vouchers may be bought by calling the box office on 01273 479865, or by emailing us using the 'contact us' form which can be found at the foot of this page.
